2017 VP Racing Fuels No Dragster Nationals presented by Mickey Thompson Tires
Thursday $10,000 Event
Winner: “Mad Max” McGlothin – Frisco, TX
Runner Up: Jamie Freeman – Westville, SC
Mad Max drives 1080 miles from Frisco Texas to park his 1927 Roadster in the SFG Winner’s Circle. Max displayed serious driving skills along the way averaging a .007 reaction time and dialing anything in the 5.60-5.70s. Congratulations to Mad Max and his entire Texas team!
Runner-up Jamie Freeman’s consistent race car moved him through the field with ease. In the later rounds Jamie pulled some numbers out of the box hitting the 00’s and teens on the tree and advancing to the final round where he met up with Mad Max – only to come up one won light short of the big check. Congrats to Jamie for his runner-up performance.
Friday $20,000 Event
Winner: Jose Diaz – Parma, OH
Runner Up: Jeff Parrish – Tazewell, VA
Friday’s $20,000 event kicked off the second day of big money being awarded at the VP Racing Fuels Inaugural No Dragster Nationals. After 8 solid rounds of racing at the Legendary Darlington Dragway, Parma Ohio’s Jose Diaz and former world champion Jeff Parrish met in the finals.
Jose and Jeff traded blows all day – alternating between who had the best run of the round. Round one went to Jeff with his .007 package, Round 2 to Jose with his .018 package, Round 3 to Jeff with a .014 package, Round 4 was a tie within .007 of each other, Round 5 was a draw as well but round 6 went to Jeff with a .008 package. This string of runs led them both to the final, where Jose Diaz would take the win over Parrish with his consistent reaction times and top-end driving reigning supreme.
Saturday $50,000 Event
Winner: Ricky Taylor – Baxley, GA
Runner Up: “Mad Max” McGlothin – Frisco, TX
On Friday, Ricky Taylor sheared the wheel studs off the rear axle of his Camaro which tore off a rear tire and turned the car sideways on the starting line. Ricky’s car-owner and father made the 5 hour one-way drive to repair the car to be able to compete for the Saturday $50,000 event.
Taylor overcame the car trouble with a solid performance on the starting line, only missing the tree once with a .019, and managed to get to the ladder round where he would earn the Round 7 bye with his .002 R/T. Ricky maintained his handle on the tree in the final round while his opponent Mad Max McGlothin fouled (-.003). After a stellar performance and ultimate victory on Thursday, Mad Max was still putting on a show: averaging less than .009 over 5 rounds of action as well as laying down a .004 total package along the way. McGlothin didn’t lay off one bit in the finals, but unfortunately clipped it red to bring home the second place money in Saturday’s main event.
Sunday $15,000 Event
Winner: Chris Dixon – Roxboro, NC
Runner Up: Kevin Pollard – Fincastle, Virginia
Chris Dixon overcomes a vibration on Thursday’s warm-up race to lay down a perfect run Friday in Round 1. This best total package of the weekend won him a custom fitted racing suit from Alliance Racewear!
Sunday, Dixon used a 6.71 dial-in along with competitive reaction times and some masterful top-end driving to park his maroon Nova in the winner circle taking the win over Kevin Pollard. Kevin Pollard made his way to the final by winning the footbrake class and then moving into the ladder round of the $15,000 race. After a near-perfect .0002 reaction time in the semi-finals, Pollard fouled with a red light against Dixon in the final round.
