The first running of the Mickey Thompson Super Bowl of Bracket Racing was a success. Racers from across the country gathered at Piedmont Dragway for three hot days of ultra-competitive, big-dollar bracket racing.
When the dust settled on the first of three $50,000 to-win events, it was Kevin Pollard who collected the big check and a $5,000 bonus for footbraking his way to the title. Pollard bested fellow door car competitor John Lassiter in the final round. AJ Currie was the lone semi-finalist and final dragster in the field.
Saturday Results The Saturday main event found New Jersey competitor Matt Shapiro paired with former Million Dollar race winner Kenny Underwood in the final round. Shapiro was able to use his .002-induced starting line advantage to take the win over Underwood’s Camaro. Frank Duplissis Jr. fell to Underwood in the semi-final round.
The Super Bowl $50,000 weekend finale saw Baltimore, MD competitor Richard Jelich use an .014 total package to defeat Taylor Sweeton by eight thousandths of a second in the final round. Shannon Justice ended up on the losing end of a tight race with Jelich that was decided by less than one thousandth of a second in the all-dragster semi-final round.
